PEAK 5260 IS NOW MOUNT NALINI

Peak 5260 in the Hamta pass region in Himalayas will now on will be called as “Mount Nalini” after veteran mountaineer Nalini Sengupta,to acknowledge her contribution in inculcating mountaineering. She has been working on this since 1970s when even the word mountaineering was unheard to most of the Indians.


HAMTA PASS

Its located in beautiful Himanchal (Manali) at an altitude of 14100 ft. height .It is a part of outer Himalayas.

WHO DECIDES THE NAME OF PEAKS?

1) Survey of India is the authority which sanctions names to a mountain which fall under the Indian Territory.
2) Generally, the team which conquers a virgin peak is granted the honor to name it.

3) The highest peak Mt. Everest was named after British survey head George Everest in 1856 .
