How to win P.S.C Exams

Are you preparing for P.S.C exams?

Secretariat Assistant, LD Clerk, University Assistant, Sub Inspector, etc. are the jobs you are aiming for. Great, and let's get one of them.

Now comes the tough part: How to crack these exam?

Except the crème de la crème, every other educated young person  could be running from pillar to post to get a Government job. So, why you should get a government job, there are at least 2 lakh other aspirants for the same job?

The answer should come spontaneously, otherwise you are not sure about your path.

What is the game plan you have to come in the top 500 ranks?

The most answer will be: coaching centres. If you agree, sorry to say, 'you are wrong.'

Because then you are one among the crowd:
The regular practice is to complete a graduation then jump on the bandwagon called P.S.C Exam preparation. Once that decision is made, and then rest of decision follows easily. Mostly brandished solution could be joining a P.S.C coaching institute, that too coaching centres which advertise heavily and trains huge number of students each year. Students tend to believe tall claims made by them.

Let's make a few simple observations now:

If 1000 people attend the coaching by a heavily advertised institute and say 25 people got through the exam, the percentage of success is 2.5%. Is this extraordinary? Or can the same results be achieved if the same 1000 students learn on their own?
Consider this, if 2lakh student wrote an exam, a state wide graduation levelselection process. And if 2.5% of   2 lakh students got the job, the number of successful candidates will be 5000.
This is the normal number of hires in LDC, Secretariat Assistant, company/board exams and other competitive exams conducted by P.S.C.

So what is the difference that happened through the much touted coaching from these centres???

Consider an alternative method,

Let's say you decided to prepare on your own for P.SC exams.
You can buy books or depend on internet for study material.

If you were to go to a coaching institute, you need at least 3 hours to reach the coaching institute. In the sense, you have to make a lot of effort every day to brush up your teeth, to dress, to look handsome or beautiful as the case may be, catch a bus, walk and reach the place. And the return trip should also eat up the same time and effort and also consider the mental lag, tiredness.

In short 6 hours gone in a day, but the learning takes place in the coaching institute for how many hours?

Now coming back to preparing for P.S.C exams on your own:

Let's say you follow this schedule,

First thing you do for the day:

Read one each  of English and Vernacular daily newspapers. The Hindu and The Times of India could be a good resource, If possible read both.
More importance should be given to reading multiple English daily. There is two very visible advantage for a P.S.C aspirant like you in reading English Newspaper.
Your current affairs will be good.
Your English will improve.
There is more benefits in reading English News,
The supplements and articles provided by these dailies is an excellent resource for building a base on each and every important happening in this world. As you read English daily for 3 months continuously, it would have become a habit for you. Lucky you, you are very close to effortlessly clearing English language questions in P.S.C exams.
We have seen many a students getting benefited by just following this simple routine.  No amount of P.S.C EXAM coaching can substitute this type of learning.

What will be the cost for reading 2 newspapers daily for a year?
;  200 Rupees per month *12.  Much better than the bus fare you paid to the coaching centre and back home.

Now get hold of a Manorama Year Book, what you may miss in Newspapers are more than adequately covered here. You can substitute it with Pearson publication or a few other publishers. Go for a safe option.

  1. The author clearly doesn't know the life of a housewife and that of wives that have children. They wouldn't get time to study at home with their household chores and kids. If you don't want to go to a Psc coaching centre then don't. I personally think i had great benefit attending the class. I am included in the mainlist after attending just 3 months class.
